The Mother of All Questions

Hi! It’s been a minute.

This is just a quick post to say that we’re coming back, for a limited time, with a mini-season around a central theme: parenthood and children.

Why this theme? Two reasons.

The first is simple: Our lives are in different places than when we first started Smaller Answers (5 years ago!), and kids and family are front and center in our lives right now. We’re in our mid-thirties and in the thick of choices about the families we’re building. Infertility, babies, postpartum experiences, and also the decision to not have kids are all frequent topics of conversation. These choices are weighty, and they’re occupying our emotional lives as well as (in some cases) hours and hours of our days to day as well. They’re shaping us in fundamental ways by changing who we socialize with, the terms of our romantic relationships, and our identities and sense of ourselves.

The second is that we’ve missed it! We’ve missed having a project that we work on together, and the satisfaction of a creative outlet that is purely ours to explore and play with. While we’ve had a few posts on this topic before (like this one, this one, this one, and this one), parenthood and kids wasn’t a big focus for either of us that the time. As always, writing for Small Answers and gathering guest posts helps us work through these tough issues for ourselves, and share our smallest of answers with you.

For the next six weeks, we’ll be bringing you a story every Monday of parenthood and children. We hope you enjoy hearing from some old voices, as well as new ones, about this particular stage of life.
